Who need Wi-Fi Seamless Roaming and Why it is critical to POS APPs?

When it comes to online POS app, system reliability, robustness and end users' experience are keys to a successful solution.  Without a reliable platform, even the most feature rich POS app could not create happy customers' experience.

Larger customer site with multiple access points (AP) is very common to reduce signal dead spots.  However, ONLY handheld with genuine seamless roaming could make use of multiple APs and achieve always-ON Wi-Fi connectivity. 

Without seamless roaming and reliable Wi-Fi, end users could see application hanging, fake connections, sudden drop/re-connection.  These are all fatal to mobile POS apps.  The real fact is that online POS app is vulnerable to connection instability.  End users demand an always-ON app. 


Note: Seamless roaming is a process scanning and switching over to a AP with stronger signal but no connection drop and re-connect is seen.  That means connection could be kept intact transparent to online POS apps and end users.

Connection intact in all situation even key rotation is very frequent.  Incoming data could be delivered to the unit as usual reliably.
Power management Without genuine and reliable Wi-Fi sleep mode, it setup either way:
  • Keep screen always on to avoid Wi-Fi sleeping, a setting to avoid invalid fake connection but battery life is significantly shorten and unit is kept always hot.
  • Turn off unreliable Wi-Fi sleep mode option.  It means Wi-Fi must be dropped when screen is off.  When system wakes up, Wi-Fi reconnection is needed.  It essentially breaks connections of all online apps, creating application instability.  It is especially severe for online demanding app like RDP (remote desktop).

  • Superb low power consumption in sleep mode (standby with Wi-Fi always-ON > 160hours). 
  • Virtually no power consumption when connection is idle. 
  • Long battery life (>12 hours) when screen keeps ON with ping request/response every 5 seconds.
Uninterrupted RDP RDP is very powerful but it demands for super reliable Wi-Fi connection.
  • For larger sites with multiple APs, seamless roaming is a must requirement. 
  • Virtually all consumer Androids have noticeable issue running RDP apps, either seeing frequent hanging or sudden drop/re-connect.
  • Consumer Androids are simply NOT designed for industrial deployment of RDP apps.
