Remote support made easy!

Remote support on handheld devices has never been easy. It is primarily due to the complicated firewall/router setup that allows Internet connection from going into the customer site's local network.

Partnered with Teamviewer, WF360 is the first POS PDA enables real remote access and screen control from Internet connection. Since the remote connection is allowed behind customer site's router/firewall, it does not require any special configuration on firewall/router but permissions by remote support application.

OTA System Upgrade

Resellers' feedback and suggestions help improve Widefly products. We regularly release updated system ROM for features enhancement, performance tuning as well as bug fixing.

Upgrading is very flexible and easy. First, it allows upgrade via SD card. It means mass upgrade on a number of units is possible by multiple SD cards. Second, more importantly, OTA (over-the-air) upgrade via Internet is provided. With the new OTA, upgrading system ROM is just a few clicks away. No more physical cards and files copying are required.

OTA upgrade submits its own ROM version and checks against with the latest version in cloud storage. Thus, upgrade only happens if the device's ROM is not the latest.

Regional cloud storage for optimal upgrade performance

WF360 is distributed worldwide. When it comes to OTA, Internet connection performance varies in different countries due to geographical limitation. Because of this, our cloud servers are spread across North America, Europe and Asia Pacific regions to maximize the OTA upgrade performance. For example, OTA runs on US time zone will connect to US cloud storage.

OTA is Kiosk Mode aware

OTA upgrade is designed for Kiosk mode as well. Under admin mode, OTA app runs straight away without limitation.

However, there is password protection under Kiosk mode. Only authorized users, e.g. site supervisors/managers, can perform OTA ROM

Note: Kiosk Mode is a special environment hardened by system administrator and prevents end users from modifying the settings.

FTP client/server/Dropbox Inbuilt

To further facilitate data transfer in and out of the WF360, FTP client and server apps are inbuilt (FTP server is stopped by default) in the system ROM. Practically, resellers' applications and setup files could be stored on FTP servers or Dropbox accounts. These utilities provide convenience and minimize the use of PC and physical USB connection as well as SD cards. Just an Internet connection could accomplish the setup tasks!

Widefly is the first to innovate Kiosk Mode

Widefly is the first in the POS industry to innovate Kiosk Mode (also known as User/Admin mode) on the wireless POS PDA solution since 2008. As its name implies, Kiosk mode is an operating environment specially designed for end users.

When the handheld enters Kiosk mode, it could lockdown the system settings pre-configured by the administrator. End users are not allowed to modify system settings as what they do on their own personal device.

Kiosk mode turns handheld into a designated POS terminal.  End users could only stay focus on the POS application, but not playing around with any settings, e.g. changing Wi-Fi setting, playing music player, installing games & etc, and creating unnecessary support issues.

Kiosk Mode reduces support calls, enhances customer satisfaction and increases profitability

Kiosk mode is an important feature for POS ISV/resellers. It facilitates administrator to harden system settings and app configurations after the handhelds are deployed to customer site.  It helps cut all support calls due to end users' mistakes on modifying settings.

A stable handheld platform enhances customer satisfaction and increases reseller profitability as all parties could stay focus on business instead of troubleshooting.

Kiosk Mode is not only a rugged software feature, it is also a cost saver of USD50-100!

When we say Widefly provides rugged handheld solution, it is not only a rugged hardware but also a rugged software platform. Developed from firmware level, Kiosk mode is an inbuilt feature of WF360. It needs no explicit installation per device.  Even restoring unit to factory default, Kiosk Mode is still here.

Compared with many other 3rd party Kiosk apps, Widefly's Kiosk Mode is inbuilt with WF360 at free of charge.  This is a significant cost saving of USD50-100 per device. It also provides unique features which 3rd application could never be achieved. For example, administrator could disable Android hard keys (menu, home, back) and notification bar. Sophisticated intruders could never go into system via USB as Kiosk mode completely blocks the USB access at firmware level.

Android Keys (home, back, menu) could be disabled!

End users use Android apps by home, back, menu keys, notification bar as well as touch panel.  The Android keys are a part of the operating system that cannot be modified or removed.  Widefly's Kiosk Mode breaks this limitation and allows administrator to disable not only the keys but also notification bar.

As a result, administrator could configure WF360 with one single POS icon on the home page by hiding notification bar as well as disabling the Android keys.  Thus, the POS app could run in full screen and end users could not escape from the POS user interface by pressing the home key.

Kiosk Mode enhances data security and reduces theft of handheld

Kiosk mode also aims at enhancing system security. We understand POS app may need to download and store sensitive transactions or customers' data locally in the PDA. With Kiosk mode, there is no way to gain access to internal data and files.

Consumer Androids have good resell value in the market. In contrast to Kiosk mode enabled handheld like Widefly's, consumer ones are very open to end users and, in turns, are prone to theft.

There are a plenty of unique features and advantages provided by WF360/WF360ST Kiosk Mode. See below:

   Consumer Androids WF360 / WF360ST

  • No inbuilt Kiosk Mode.
WF360 is designed for POS ISV/resellers for running designated POS app
  • Kiosk mode inbuilt.
  • Need no explicit installation per device.
Kiosk mode cost

  • If notification bar must be visible, Kiosk Mode disables dragging down.
Data Security End users copy and remove data/files easily Kiosk mode completely blocks file utilities and allows only restricted apps.
USB protection Android's USB is easily connected to PC for data access. Kiosk could block at firmware level all USB access from the PC.
Reseller's wallpaper End users could change wallpaper. Reseller's wallpaper with company logo is protected in Kiosk Mode.
